Working in an office environment has its ups and downs for establishing “the mood of the day.”  Over the course of many years, the color décor and fashions, have a an odd way of become old and flat out blah, thus establishing the office mood. (It is odd, but it happens in many offices.) In order to emerge to from the old décor, businesses will invest in consultants to revamp the area and bring new life to it.  From my perspective…BRAVO! What could be done though in the event that the money was not there to hire a consultant?

Recently looking over a free magazine (from a local small business) called better nutrition (December 2009), a tiny article found on page 6, titled “Nature makes us Nicer,” by Vera Tweed, points out something I had been doing to encourage a better mood.  PLANTS!!! Re-work the area to have manageable plants in the office environment.  Start off small to know what could survive with the lighting.  Then added art work, framed or statues, in with the plants. This changes the whole appearance and mood of the office space.  (Think of all the money that would be saved!)

Here is the best part about the article. The article states that a study was conducted by the University of Rochester showing that people feel better having something from nature around.  I quote, “Being exposed to nature, if only in images on a computer screen or plants in our work space, brings out our caring and community-oriented instincts and makes us feel better…” The article goes on to say that the study showed how and what becomes of value to people the more they are exposed to nature, versus man-made things that hold a wealth or numerical value to it.  (Easily stated, nature promoted a reduction of stress, and less materialism.)

This was a great find to come across, to say the least. It establishes what I have been saying for years about plants, “I just feel calmer and relaxed.”  In my case, the plants overran the area in my workspace and had to be trimmed a number of times, but it was worth it.  Many of the co-workers liked seeing the plants and gazed at them in amazement.  It had a mini jungle feeling because there were/are many shades of green splashed everywhere.

  • The Breet Report – Why It Is Important To Know The Environment

Aside from scandal of “Climate-gate,” there are legitimate reasons as to why the environment should be discussed.   The idea of taxing has gotten way out of control – far out of control.  No one, at least the blue-collar worker/unemployed, has the money to keep paying for the hikes, fees, and whatever else could be thought of to tax.  Come on we pay now and the money is mismanaged (in some cases) with nothing but a big headache of a scandal. Now, taking it out in trade, via a dictator style, really wouldn’t work for most people I believe.  So, in my humble opinion, the discussion of the environment should continue. Let me explain why…

Here at the homestead/apartment, the community is quaint.  The issues of violence, heard/seen/otherwise, are either because of the speeders zooming down the main drag or an occasional disagreement, which has happened only once.  Anyway, as you probably guessed, the apartments are cubed and stacked on top of each other.  I have neighbors above, to the sides, and across from here. Everyone, in this nook of the world, are very nice.  So, what’s the issue?  Ever have a neighbor that keeps using water ALL DAY LONG? I do.

Now, I like the neighbors that live above me.  They are very nice and don’t really bother/attempt to talk to anyone. So, I don’t take their privacy to mean they are antisocial; however, I am willing to bet their apartment looks like a museum.  I keep hearing the vacuum cleaner, and the water, go on and off.  I mean a lot of water usage. Simply extraordinary! <gushhhh, off. Gussshhhh, off again.>

When the apartment was first looked over, there was a noticeable patch just above the shower head.  Okay, not an issue I can understand wear and tear, or aging on the pipes.  Now, that little patch is gushy.  Not to mention that due to the use of the washing machine (all day long) there is a drip, drip, drip inside the drywall.  Ahg…

The water issue spans all continents. Should the reports be accurate, it would seem to be getting worse.  While some would like to blame this on climate…don’t solely blame Earth changes. Change is the law of the Universe. Most of us realize that and see it in the mirror every day. The evident changes boil down to some people’s disregarding the preciousness of the water resources by overusing and/or blatantly polluting it, plus the outdated infrastructures being the culprit.  The lack of planning to negotiate the future for upgrades was not taken into consideration.  If you think about that for a moment, it’ll lead to a lot of questions…..

Well, this is just another two-cents to add to the pot….

  • The Breet Report – Random Main Street Interviews, Not From Major Networks Here?

Going back to some journalism real quick…when was the last time a MAJOR television station here in the United States went out – into the wilderness – of Main Street? Think about it…how many times does the public get to see the journalist pounding the pavement, like many do nowadays, to get the public opinion? Aside from a square of public participation in the morning from a major network…how many? Now, sure phone calls from the cube farms can be made to get the polls, but what about honest to goodness interviews?

Look the news is filtered and we all know that there is about a 80/20 split happening. Take your views to determine how much truth or stretched truths you think you get – I reserve the opinion. Ha! I ask questions and pull up the old articles – there is a lot more to be understood. (Case in point…seems like a lot of people are buying gold now. Well, anyone catch the one sentence in the news release Monday about Nevada mining gold again? It was in the article about the Uranium deposits seeping into the groundwater. Neat uh? Thought gold mining had ceased years ago because of the ‘strong greenback’ -?? Anyway, a digression…sorry.)

Years ago, journalists were called on to be a voice and source for the public. A former President did the invocation to journalists, but is not here today to see what has become of the journalism class. While not all journalist fall into the category of suppress the data, ignore the story, and no straight talk – many do. This happens because money talks and most of us are the poor dolts getting news on the go….It is when one stops long enough to say, “hold up! You did NOT say that the last time. What gives?” That is when it is realized (even more) that a lie is being spoken…then repeated – over, and over, and over.

    Yikes and Red Flag Warnings!!

Though the progress of the nation is said to be on track – ahem – one journalism arena is found pounding the pavement to get the public interaction. Yes – public interaction – interviews. These are not gossip driven, or fame seeker interviews, but real people on the street interviews. So, who is doing real interviews? The Russian Times – Yes! Holy Shit. Let me say it again..Holy Shit! The journalist, or at least an employee for The Russian Times, is out there asking a question to get a feel for the public. The public! Now, history has suggested that the Russians were KNOWN to have misinformation out the wazoo and/or to do other things for control over the media. What is up with this I wonder? Not sure, but damn if there is not a crew beating the journalist at real interviews…the Main Street kind…

**And I am sorry to hear about the Washington Post closing major locations. It just hit the breaking news wire…there are no other details.**

Here is a random interview done … from You Tube User theresident / Title Taxes Suck /Date November 23, 2009
