America and her citizens have a lot of pride when it comes to addressing freedoms and rights. The bases for the freedoms and rights comes because of the dedication from brave men and woman that serve in the Armed Services. Those men and woman are volunteers in the services. America has an Army, Navy, Marine Corp, and Coast Guard to protect against those who would take those freedoms and rights from her citizens.
Most of Americas brave men and woman have a family and home that they leave behind, even during traditional holiday seasons celebrated here, to secure the future of the United States. The contact some men and woman have in the service is strictly with family, even on deployment; however, there is a site that is operational year round to provide other men and woman (that do not have a support group here at home), with the potential to feel remembered.
It does not matter what season it is to participate in making an armed service member feel remembered, but this is the season of gifts, love, and family. Let us remember the troops and find out what they need (for a care packages) to support them at AnySoilder.com. They are apart of our country and the pride of this nation.
The Site AnySoldier.com
AnySoilder.com was established in 2003 by the family of a service member who was deployed to Iraq. The family learned that their son, Sergeant Brain Horn with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, “was living under extremely harsh conditions, after having been in Iraq for five (5) months.” The family realized that extreme conditions existed due to a report from the Stars & Stripes, a military run paper.
In an effort to provide their support and love to their son who was fighting in Iraq during this time, care packages were sent to the unit. After a period of time, it was discovered that their son would distribute some of the items to other soldiers within the unit.
The family decided to take matters in to their hands here, and began collecting e-mail addresses, corresponding within the community, and promoting awareness that a support unit (or group) existed here in America, should any other citizens want to be involved. As with all excellent programs, the beginnings started out rocky till eventually AnySoldier.com was created. (The military has secured other sites of the similar – like AnyNavy.com, etc.)
The site, AnySoldier.com, contains directions for any citizen wanting to participate this holiday season in supporting the troops. The first page, scroll down a bit, even has a “How this works:” section for a citizen to know more about the where to send, what to send, what not to send, and FAQ section to learn more.
Final Thought
Up till last night, I had not heard of this site and stumbled upon it by sheer happenstance. Having read the information, and some of the requests, it was amazing to see just how much I take for granted. Though the season of gift giving is tighter than ever, and there are costs involved for sending packages overseas, it is worth letting the men and woman who do not receive care packages know they are remembered. It can be during any time of the year. For my part…let the reworking of the finances begin!
To show your support too ~ here is a link for a button! A great thank you to this family for creating this site!
